When Warren Beatty came to Finland…
In 1982, Hollywood star Warren Beatty comes to Helsinki to shoot scenes for his Oscar winning film Reds. The filmmakers wants to hire
a motorhome for the star but motorhomes are a rarity at that time in Finland - and the rest of Europe - so it is not an easy job. After a hard search one is found in Kuopio in Eastern Finland and it is rented to Mr. Beatty. The foundation for the present camper renting business is thereby laid – and Touring Cars is founded.
Touring Cars in a nutshell
Touring Cars, founded in 1982, is the leading producer of motorhome holidays in Northern Europe, has nearly 350 new and fully equipped motorhomes available. On our camper holiday you will have unique experiences and high-quality customer service. In addition to Finland, the company has offices in Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Our vehicles can be driven with a passenger car driver’s license. They are easy to operate and no previous experience is needed. Our rental stations are located near by international airports and we transfer our customers from and back to the airport. The transfers are included in the price! Our customers can also return the motorhome to another rental station than the one they picked it from by paying the One-Way fee. In addition to our main rental stations in Helsinki, Rovaniemi, Stockholm, Oslo and Reykjavik, our drop-off only destinations in Bergen, Trondheim, Kuopio and Ivalo.
All of our rental stations are open 24 / 7 by appointment so the client can schedule the service time that best suits them. At the rental station we familiarize the customer to the use of a motorhome and give travelling tips for their destination country. We spend up to 2 or 3 hours with them. It’s important to us that the client is confident with the new way of travelling! Road side telephone assistance is also available 24 / 7 and helps immediately with motorhome related questions and problems.
To make the motorhome holiday more enjoyable we provide several additional items, for example bed linen, BBQ set or bicycles, which are not included in the price. The vehicles are fully insured with a deductible of 2 400 euros per exterior damage. We offer two different extensive insurance coverage options for reducing the deductible to 1 200 euros or to 600 euros per damage. Smoking is prohibited in all of our motor homes.

The insurance coverage is divided into two different parts in Scandinavia; a compulsory and collision insurance.
The compulsory insurance covers all the damages or accidents to the third party caused by client. The second one and more important insurance is the collision insurance, which covers damages to clients own rental vehicle caused by an accident.
| Insurance | TC Basic | TC Plus | TC Premium | TC Total |
| Deductible EUR | 2400 | 1200 | 600 | 0 |
| Daily charge EUR | 0 | 12 | 19 | 49 |

including one external damage free of charge |
Please note: Touring Cars offers a possibility for a care free holiday with new TC Total 0 € deductible and reimburses you for the vehicle damage costs up to €2400. TC Total insurance is available on spot only. The price for TC Total is 49€ per rental day including one external damage free of charge. In case several damages, following damages 600 € / damage. - Third party accident
** No deductible will be charged for one windshield damage or one tyre damage
The second one and more important insurance is the collision insurance which covers dam-ages to clients own rental vehicle caused by an accident.
Collision insurance covers damages to the vehicle due to an accident, fire or theft. The insurance is NOT valid if the vehicle is being used under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, or if damage is caused due to reckless behavior. The collision insurance does not cover any interior damages, which are not caused by a traffic accident.
All Touring Cars rentals include a TC Basic insurance which has a 2400 euro deductible. In a case of an accident caused to the rental vehicle, there is a deductible to be paid by the rentee. Moreover, rentee is liable to cover all monetary damages caused by him or her for up to 2400 Euro per damage, per accident, per lost items, or per punitive sanctions(please sees the returning policy). The collision insurance covers the part of the monetary loss, which exceeds 2400 Euro per damage. Also, please notice that deductible is per monetary loss and not per rental period. Moreover, it does not cover interior damages, which are not caused by traffic accident.
Touring Cars offers two insurance packages for client to choose from to reduce the amount of deductible. TC Plus insurance will reduce the deductible to 1200 euro per damage for payment of only 12 euro per rental day. TC Premium costs 19 euro per rental day and it will reduce the deductible to 600 euro per damage.
The minimum reduction period d is 7 rental days or equivalent monetary payment. All additional drivers need to be named for the insurance for it to be valid. If a non-designated driver drives the rental vehicle TCBasic insurance terms and conditions apply with a 2 400 Euro deductible per damage. All other rental and insurance conditions remain the same.
If the rental vehicle is been driven to the Baltic Countries (Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania) or Russia an additional insurance, “green card”, is required. TC Plus and TC Premium insurance packages can still be purchased but the deductible for the theft coverage will be 20 per cent of the value of the vehicle. Minimum deductible is in all cases 600 euro.
Client will be given details of the current defects on the damage form. Client, as a rentee, is responsible to discover the damages prior of signing the document. Client are liable for all new damages found on the vehicle upon end of clients rental period. All new damages, which were not marked on the agreement upon pick-up, will be charged from client. This notice is given for clients protection.
If an unauthorized driver causes an accident or damages the vehicle, TC insurance and its rules will be voided.

Driving in Iceland
There are restrictions driving on roads marked with an “F”. Motorhome cannot be driven on these roads. If a wind warning has been issued, no driving shall be done to ensure safety. If a driver breaks this condition and causes damage to their rental vehicle insurance coverage is not valid.
Driving in Iceland is different
Many roads in Iceland are loose gravel roads. Others are covered with asphalt concrete. The surface of the gravel roads can be very loose, especially along the sides. You must therefore slow down whenever you go from an asphalt road to a gravel road and show precaution when approaching an oncoming car by slowing down. The Icelandic roads are in many cases very narrow. The same goes for many bridges; they are often wide enough for one car at a time. While driving on gravel roads speed should be kept to a minimum and driving over rivers that do not have bridges is strictly forbidden. The most important thing to keep in mind while in Iceland is to be aware of the fact that the weather can change suddenly and that the wind speed can become very high. It is strictly forbidden also to drive the vehicle when the wind speed exceeds 15 meters per second. In this case find a spot where you can park the vehicle with the front facing the wind and stay in the vehicle until the weather calms down.
Driving on highlands roads is prohibited! Driving on all roads marked with an “F” strictly is prohibited!
| Gravel roads | Bridges | National highway |
| Loose surface. | Narrow - single lane. | Stretches of asphalt |
| Loose sides. | Often only for one car | Often only single lane |
| Loose, falling stones from oncoming cars | ||
| Narrow roads |
Please note: Do not drive under influence of alcohol! The tolerance is strictly under 0.5 ‰. Never stop the car on blind spots; under hills, bridges or other places were the road sight is bad or narrow!
| Speed limits | Safety in cars |
| 30-50 km/h urban areas | Safety belts must be worn at all times |
| 80 km/h gravel roads in rural areas | Children under 6 years old must use a children’s seat |
| 90 km on asphalt road | Using Mobile phone is forbidden while driving. Use a hands-free set! |
Speed:
Even if the maximum speed on gravel roads is 80 km/per hour some of the roads do not bear that speed. We advise you to slow down and always drive according to conditions
Animals:
You can expect animals; cows, sheep and even reindeers on the narrow gravel roads at anytime.
The Icelandic weather
The Icelandic weather can change suddenly. If the weather forecast is bad and your safety or the safety of the vehicle could be in danger you need to keep the following things in mind:
1. Never drive the vehicle if the wind speed reaches more than 15 meters per second.
2. If the wind speed exceeds 15 meters per second you must stop the vehicle and position it facing the wind. Motorhomes are not suitable for driving in high winds and can easily be blown off the road.
3. Try to “read” the wind. Look for waves on small lakes, pay attention to trees or grass along the roadside. The rain can help you to estimate the wind direction. Remember that the wind which blows on the side of the car is the most dangerous one.
4. Remain in the vehicle until the weather has calmed down.
5. If you are in doubt whether to continue with your journey or not because of the weather conditions, you should remain where you are.
6. Call Touring Cars for information if you have any questions.
7. You can also call the public Road Service in Iceland if you have any doubts over the weather conditions. Please note that you will get an answering machine, which is in English, where you will be able to find your location by pressing the numbers on your cell phone as requested.
8. Ask the locals. Icelanders love to talk about the weather and they are helpful.
9. If you choose to ignore the weather conditions you do so at your own risk.
10. Call the weather service phone, which is an answering machine and can give you
information on wind speed in the area you are in.
11. Call Touring Cars for information.
What to do in case of an emergency
1. Check the status of the passengers.
2. Call 112 for emergency help. There are few areas in Iceland that you cannot use your Mobile phone. These areas are few. To find connection you may have to walk a few steps or drive 1-2 km.
3. Tell Your location.
4. Tell what happened.
5. Tell them who is calling
Do not hang up until 112 says it is OK!

To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:

Total cost is based on self-service diesel price in the area and 13 euro surcharge. This option allows a client the convenience of not having to refuel the vehicle prior to returning.
Luggage Storage
We recommend you to favour soft suitcases over hard ones because you can fit them inside the luggage compartment of the motorhome much better. You can also leave your suitcases at our rental station until your return, all at your own risk.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

The collision insurance covers damages to rented vehicle in a case of an accident, fire or theft. The insurance is not valid if the vehicle is being used under influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Also, insurance is not valid if the damages are caused due to the careless behavior by the renter or his party. All damages, regardless if they have been caused in a third party accident or not, are subject to deductible. For an example, windscreen is subject to deductible rules if a stone brakes the windscreen. Interior damages are not part of collision insurance, so full retail value will be charged for each damaged part.
Touring Cars offers both insurances free of charge to all renters. TC Basic insurance package´s collision insurance has €2400.00 deductible, which means that the renter is responsible for paying up to €2400.00 if he or she causes a damage or an accident to the vehicle. The collision insurance will pay the excess of €2400.00. It is very important to notice that the deductible is per damage or accident and not per rental period.
Deductible cannot be reduced, if a client travel's to Russia or the Baltic states. Deductible in the case of theft is minimum 20% of the vehicle´s value.
Touring Cars also offers two different extensive insurance coverage options to clients, who rent a camper for a minimum period of one week. Clients can choose to buy more extensive collision coverage to reduce the deductible amount to € 1200.00 by paying €12.00 per rental day. They can also purchase TC Premium Insurance, which lowers the deductible to €600.00. In addition, there is no deductible for one tyre damage and / or one windscreen damage if a client purchases TC Premium insurance. This package costs € 19.00 per rental day. Minimum period is 7 days or a payment of equivalent amount. These deductible rules are valid for accident damages ONLY.
All insurance packages include Touring Care 24-hour roadside assistance (Value € 9.00 per rental day)!
If an unauthorized driver causes an accident or damages the vehicle, deductible follows TC Basic insurance package and its rules. TC insurance and its rules will be voided.
